Lead Teacher, Mobile-Infant Community
My name is Karina Silva and I am from São Paulo – Brazil. I moved to the U.S in 2016 as an Au Pair, and I had a wonderful experience working with children! I hold a Bachelor of Letters degree in Translation and Interpretation. My passion for working with children started when I was in Brazil preparing to be an Au Pair. I worked as a volunteer in a few schools in São Paulo. Then I moved to Virginia as a part of the Au Pair program. I decided to take an early childhood course, and in it, I did an assignment about Dr. Maria Montessori. As an educator, I realized that Dr. Montessori’s philosophy matched mine. With that in mind, I enrolled in the Infant and Toddler Montessori training program through the Institute for Advanced Studies at the Barrie School in Silver Spring, MD. I recently graduated from my Montessori training and have already led a toddler classroom for one year. I really love being a Montessori teacher. Observing how the children thrive in a learning environment where they are free and can make creative choices in their learning is amazing! In my free time, I enjoy playing board games, hiking, being in nature, visiting new places, watching movies and TV shows, talking to my family in Brazil and listening to music.
